Drama activity at Mustansir’s school
Today they had a show and tell cum drama session at my son, Mustansir’s school. The teacher asked each of the students to pick an activity that each of the kids do daily and act it out when their names were called for attendance.
Most of the kids did activities such as brushing their teeth, sleeping, reading, eating, you know the daily drill.
Mustansir himself chose to act out combing his hair.
As the teacher went on, it came to this last boy who was called. He started performing a slashing type activity and the teacher tried to guess it as painting (imagine a kid waving his hand around with a wand or sword). The kid started giggling and said no and he did it again. All the kids managed to guess it and said he is killing someone. So the teacher said, I’m sure its not that. She turned to confirm what it was and to the sad shock of all the parents, it was killing! The teacher explained that killing is not something you do everyday (like as if you do it anyday for that matter) and told him to do perform another action.
So the kid decided to do an action that he probably thought was uber cool doing something like this
Thats when those parents who were not shocked started laughing. The kids though, they were amazed and started saying he is shooting and the some of the kids replied “You do not shoot a gun everyday” (once again, I am sure he has not shot a gun on any day).
The teacher was shocked and told him to come to the middle and asked him to think of a task less violent which we does truthfully everyday. He had difficulty trying to think of the fact that he eats, sleeps, changes his clothes, probably takes a shower, reads a book, goes to school or anything like that. So the teacher asked the class to suggest an activity and someone suggested play basketball.
The boy was like I am not sure how to play basketball.
The teacher tried to explain and even demonstrated to him how to act as if he was playing basketball – looked like she was having fun then.
But he refused to do that as he did not play basketball daily.
So someone suggested soccer/football.
He went to the center, bent his knee back and kicked the air ball.
The kid sitting in front of him, being a good sport and a great actor fell to the floor and said the ball hit me 🙂
That made all the parents laugh again and reminded us that not all kids are brought up with guns and swords.
