Norwegian airlines from Singapore to London
The trip of ours of course did not begin with booking a flight but sometime in the year, we read about a new low cost flight from Singapore to London. The fares offered by Norwegian airlines were extremely low and as it was a direct flight, the entire flight duration would be reduced quite a bit compared to other flights with stop overs.
The only concern we had was that Norwegian Airlines was a budget airlines and in the past, I, being 1.9m tall, have not been able to stand more than 2 hours of a cramped budget airlines.
We read about the seat pitch for the Norwegian airlines flight from Singapore to London and it was about 31 inches which were normal when compared to other airlines like Malaysian Airlines and even Silk Air.
Anyway, we decided to go for Norwegian Airlines. In total with luggage, meals and seats for all of us, which they call Lowfare + on their website, we ended up paying about $1400 which was $1000 lower than the nearest other airline, Malaysian Airlines.
The check in for our flight, DI7408 on 16th Nov 201, was very smooth. The staff were friendly and they were extremely fast in checking us in. You need to note something here that unlike most other airlines from Singapore, the luggage allowance by Norwegian Airlines is per piece. What this means is that you can bring in only 1 piece of luggage up to 20 kilos. You cannot have 2 pieces of 10 kilo bags unless you purchase 2×20 kilos. However, they were kind enough to let us split the weight as we had one bag which was 10 kilos and another 2 bags which were 23 and 22 kilos respectively. I am not sure if this is a norm but this is what we got at check-in.
On board the flight, which was a 787 dreamliner, the seats looked a little old school/budget styled with leather or PVC style seats. At first sight, because of the “budget airlines” stigma, the seats on this Norwegian airlines flight seemed a little cramped as well. But as you can see from this image, it was not.
The space was tight but not very tight. Luckily for me, the seats beside me were vacant (as was most of the other seats) and so I had 3 seats all to myself. A nice bed for me. In fact, all of us had 3 seats to ourselves and as our flight was leaving at 9.45 am Singapore time, we decided to go to sleep straight away. We did this to set our body clocks to the UK time, where we were heading. It was 1.45 am there and we should have been sleeping 🙂
Also onboard this Norwegian Airlines flight from Singapore to London, is a personal entertainment at each seat which includes a usb port where you can charge your electronic device and the seat on the left side of the isle (seat D) also has a power point.
The entertainment unit is quite good and has a clear, new screen.
Norwegian airlines offers 3 “meals” on their flight from Singapore to London. 2 hot meals and a sandwich in between. The hot meals were of :
- Chicken pasta with a custard and some funky salad. This meal comes with a glass of water, 1 drink of your choice (I think it is only a soft drink) and a coffee/tea
- Chicken / Tuna sandwiches mid way through the flight. These are on request and you can have them if you want them.
- Chicken curry, rice, vegetables with a custard and potato salad. Again, this meal comes with a glass of water, 1 drink of your choice (I think it is only a soft drink) and a coffee/tea
There are also things available for purchase in the skybar. Please note that for meals, you should order them in advance or you are left with the choice of having only whatever that’s left.
The price for food and drinks on this Norwegian Airlines flight from Singapore to London includes:
- Water for $3 a bottle
- Canned drinks at $3 a can
- Smoothie/Juice at $2.50
- Coffee/Tea at $3 per cup
- Sandwiches at $7 each
- Salad/Fruit/Desert from $3 to $9
- Snacks like candies from $2 up
For your comfort and entertainment, there are also other items such as speakers and blankets for sale on board at $3 and $5 respectively.
All of the prices above are in USD. Took me some time to figure this out.

The blanket is pretty ok. My suggestion is, get a good blanket and your own speakers, bring some snacks for yourself and you are very prepared to not spend a cent on board.
Also, as you are boarding the flight, do note that you should bring along an empty water bottle that you can fill up at the waiting area. This will save you $3 per bottle on the flight.
We as a family of 5, had 2x 1 litre bottles and 1 x 2 litre bottle which lasted us the whole journey as the meals come with water and drinks as well.
Here are some pics of my family and I on the flight
